Foreign Policy

Thailand and Mexico have maintained close relations since the time when diplomatic relations were established. There have been several exchanges of visits by high level officials from the monarchy / royal family, government leaders and ministers.  In addition, the Government of Thailand and the Government of Mexico have signed several agreements such as the Cooperation Agreement of Aviation and Transportation in 1992, the Agreement on Visa Exemption for Diplomatic and Official Passports in 1999 and the Agreement on Culture and Education 2003.

In 2005, Mexico and Thailand held the 30 th / thirtieth anniversary of diplomatic relations, during which congratulations were exchanged letters between government leaders and foreign ministers of both countries. At the same time, various activities were organized by both parties in order to commemorate this important event. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand shared hosting a reception to celebrate the 30 th / Thirtieth anniversary of diplomatic relations.

Mexico-Thailand relations are invigorated by official visits by senior officials from bothThailandtoMexico, and from Mexico toThailand.

  The peak of Mexico-Thailand relations was reached with the visit of HRH Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn and particularly in 2003 with the establishment of a Strategic Partnership on Trade and Investment and the signing of an Agreement on Cooperation Cultural and Educational.


Such discussions reiterated the interest of both actors to cooperate  in political and  trade, especially in creating new initiatives to strengthen the cultural, educational and scientific. Similarly, in commercial matters sought to strengthen bilateral trade, as well as create a regulatory framework to achieve business optimization, it also requires the participation of businessmen and microentrepreneurs who are willing to explore new commercial markets.

In response to this, we created the Bilateral Committee of Businessmen MéxicoTailandia by signing a Memorandum of Understanding between the then Mexican Business Council for International Affairs and the Deputy Foreign Minister Thai

 Last but not least, the Thai government donated a Thai elephant statue at the local government of Mexico City as a symbol of friendship and 30 years of strong relations between the two countries.
