During the ceremony, the Ambassador of Thailand also conveyed the warm regards and best wishes from His Majesty the King of Thailand to the Mexican President.

Ambassador Surasak and Mrs. Ruchira Chuasukonthip recently arrived in the United Mexican States on 12 February 2015. The kind consideration of the Mexican President in according the request to present the Letter of Credence in such a short juncture is deeply appreciated by the Thai side and is a clear reflection of the desire by both countries to forge ahead the relations for mutual benefits. The Ambassador has outlined his priorities during his tenure in Mexico as follows:

1.      To commemorate the 40th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations between Thailand and Mexico with a range of activities to strengthen bilateral cooperation, trade, and cultural and academic exchange between the two countries.

2.      To promote dialogue at the highest level through visits and meetings between the leaders and policymakers. Following a fruitful first political consultation between Thailand and Mexico in 2014, Thailand hopes to continue the momentum that has been set by both sides.

3.      To continue expanding trade, which has been growing by double digits in the past few years. Some notable areas of potential include the automotive and food/agriculture sectors.

4.      To build on the foundation of people-to-people relations through cultural activities and educational exchanges. The Embassy’s food and Thai boxing events have been very well received by the Mexican public and we will continue to promote this awareness as well as sponsor academic exchanges to bring greater exposure of Thailand to Mexico.

Prior to his assignment in Mexico, Ambassador Surasak was the Thai Ambassador to Kuwait. He began his diplomatic career in 1980 at the Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Throughout his career, he has also worked at the Department of ASEAN Affairs and the Department of Consular Affairs of the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs. His foreign postings have been to the Royal Thai Embassy in Manila, the Royal Thai Embassy at the Hague, and the Royal Thai Embassy in Singapore.

Ambassador Surasak graduated with a Bachelor of Political Science (Public Administration) from Chulalongkorn University, Bachelor of Laws from Ramkamhaeng University, Master of Arts (Political Science) from Chulalongkorn University, and from the National Defense College of Thailand.
