Mrs. Juthaporn Rerngronasa, TAT Acting Governor and Deputy Governor for International Marketing (Europe, Africa, Middle East and Americas) said, “Thanks to the continuous support of Her Majesty the Queen of Thailand, Thai silk has not only been well-preserved, but further developed to fit with the modern lifestyles, too. This event aims to elaborate such significant contribution and let the world know of the legendary beauty of Thai silk and the development that can impact the world’s fashion industry.”
Highlighted activities will be staged at two venues: Parusakawan Palace on Ratchadamnoen Nok Avenue on 14 August between 17:00–20:00 hrs, and a special two-week exhibition at the Siam Paragon Department Store from 17-30 August between 11:00-21:00 hrs. This will showcase Thai silk fabric from five leading silk production centres in Thailand, demonstrate the unique Thai silk weaving techniques especially the most famous Yok Thong Thai silk from Surin province.
There will also be mini fashion shows of top-quality Thai silk clothes, especially those designed by Her Royal Highness Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana and many other leading Thai and international designers including the owner of ‘Koi Suwannagate’ fashion outlet in New York; Chamnan Pakdeesuk the designer of the Flynow brand; Saksit Pisalasupongs and Phisit Jongnarangsin from the Tube Gallery brand; as well as Ms Hermione De Paula- the rising star fashion designer from the UK-based Fashion Innovation Agency, whose work has been presented in the London Fashion Week, will also present their works at this event.
Mrs. Juthaporn added, “This is also a great showcase to present the highest-quality silk from top-five silk weaving villages of Thailand including Yok Dok fabric of Lamphun in the North, Pha Yok fabric of Cha-uat district in Nakhon Si Thammarat in the South, Yok Thong fabric from Ban Tha Sawang district in Surin, Mutmi silk of Chonnabot district in Khon Kaen and Praewa silk – known as the Queen of Thai Silk from Kalasin province in the Northeast.”
The event also includes a silk-weaving demonstration, demonstration on how to wear silk-woven clothes as well as presentation of Thailand’s silk routes for anyone who might be interested to visit the silk weaving villages in each region. The exhibition is held along with the showcase of handicraft products from the Support Arts and Crafts International Centre of Thailand (Public Organisation).
